College Baseball and Sports Management Scholarships

A great number of high school students are talented baseball players, and thus college baseball recruiting for sports management scholarships focuses a lot on high school baseball athletes.

Baseball is a game comprised of two teams with nine players each. The team that wins is the one that makes the most runs.  In a run, a player hits a ball thrown by another player, and runs past four markers called bases, which are arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond. The two teams take turns in batting and fielding, and the team that makes the most runs is declared the winner.

In baseball, it is the umpire who calls “Play” to begin the game.  The ball is then considered live and in play, and remains so until infractions are committed, when umpire calls “Time”.  While the ball is not in play, no athletes can be called out, no bases are run and no runs may be made. However, runners are allowed to advance one or more bases as the result of plays that were ongoing while the ball was alive.

The pitcher is the player designated to throw the pitch to the batter. The batter is the one tasked to strike the ball—or not—depending which course he chooses.

The goal of the offensive team is to have its batter transition to a runner position, and have the runners advance.  The defensive team needs to prevent offensive players from advancing to runners, and progress through the bases.

Once the batter becomes a runner, and completely runs through all bases, the team scores a run.  When three offensive players are legally put out, the team then takes the field, and the teams switch offensive and defensive roles.

It is important for high school students to know more than the basics in order to succeed in college baseball recruiting and sports management scholarships.  Many are hoping to get noticed during college baseball recruiting in order to play in college baseball teams.  Fortunately, the Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both athletes in high school and athletic recruiters looking for new talent.  There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact.  D1Athletes is an online community wherein student athletes and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need concerning sports management scholarships.  D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.

Engaging Youth in Philanthropy New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising

Engaging Youth in Philanthropy New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising

Explores ways nonprofits can foster lifelong philanthropic habit in today’s youth. Editor Bill Stanczykiewicz, president and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute, and contributors examine successful youth engagement programs that illustrate that philanthropy is a habit that can be demonstrated, taught, and inculcated at a very young age. Progams discussed include a YMCA program encouraging civic activity among children with backgrounds in lower-income communities and lower academic achievement which demonstrates that the instruction of philanthropic values and behaviors can transcend traditional qualifiers of income and education. Contributors also present results of a four-year study on college undergraduates who earn college scholarships that require recipients to participate in community service, and show how they reveal increased philanthropic values these students, in addition to other personal skills that benefit civic engagement and service to others. Other aspects of youth philanthropy examined include the significant legal issues surrounding adolescents raising money for organizations, youth serving on nonprofit boards, and youth casting deciding votes on board matters. The issue also includes an informative primer on youth and philanthropy that demonstrates how young people learn philanthropic behavior from several sectors within civil society, including community foundations, nonprofit organizations, schools, and government. With insight from professionals in the field, as well as the passionate voices of philanthropic youth themselves, this issue illustrates how we must be actively engaged in the lives of children and youth — in our families and in our communities – not just to develop healthy habits of philanthropy, but for their overall healthy development.
