Or does the average student give up and get loans (public or private)?

It seems that there is a lot of jumping through hoops to get a scholarship for college. And for the ones out there, it seems like they are only available to a limited class such as children of Vietnam veterans. Yet millions of dollars go unclaimed each year. Is finding a scholarship more like a job search, where an X amount of hours needs to be spent to obtain an X amount of dollars?

From what I’ve seen, he average student is left with loans. If you’re not one of those select few with super high scores, then a lot of big scholarships go out of the door. The idea that millions go unclaimed is more of a myth. If any scholarship goes unclaimed, it was probably either well hidden or had very specific qualifications.
