Tennis College Scholarship Application 2008

My name is Phoebe Walker and I am currently looking for a full scholarship to an NCAA Div 1 University starting in the Fall of 2008.

I am currently ranked within the top 5 in my State and I am ranked within the top 90 Australian female players, which continues to climb now that I have completed my schooling. I compete at the highest club level in my state as the number one player in the team and have done so for the past two years with considerable success.

For more then 5 years I have been a member of the South Australian State Tennis Program in numerous talent squads and the South Australian Optus Tennis Academy, where at one stage I was the only female member selected. I was then offered a place in the South Australian Institute of Sport, which is an academy for the highest achieving sports people in the state of South Australia.

I contributed to the success of the Marryatville High School Tennis Team. Our Team finished top over the 5 years of my schooling, making us the best tennis school in South Australia. The school was regularly ranked in the top 2 schools Australia wide.

I have also attended a Talented Athletes Program Camp. Twice I was invited to attend the Lleyton Hewitt International Tennis Camp, a camp identifying future tennis stars. I was also a member of the Junior Hopman Cup Team.

With the recent conclusion of my secondary schooling I am currently preparing to compete in ITFs, AMTs and Satellite Tournaments for the next 6 months so my ranking will continue to climb and I will be ready to perform at my peak for college tennis in America.

Tennis has been such a major part of my life that I want to continue playing in the highly competitive environment of intercollegiate tennis in the USA.

I have attached a list of most of my awards and accomplishments over the past 5 years.

Please let me know if you require further information.

Regards,
Phoebe Walker

A Concise History of the Middle East

A Concise History of the Middle East

The eighth edition of Arthur Goldschmidt’s widely acclaimed text has been extensively revised to reflect the latest scholarship and the most recent events in the Middle East. As an introduction to the history of this turbulent region from the beginnings of Islam to the present day, the book is distinguished by its clear style, broad scope, and balanced treatment. Written for undergraduate college students, the text assumes no prior knowledge of Middle Eastern history. It focuses on the evolution of Islamic institutions and culture, the influence of the West, the modernization efforts of Middle Eastern governments, the struggle of various peoples for political independence, the course of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the reassertion of Islamic values and power, the aftermath of the Gulf War, and issues surrounding the Palestinian Question. The eighth edition brings new discussion to the post-9/11 political developments and surveys terrorism in the Middle East, the Iraq War, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
